Website Manager

Nick Martin, President

Nick is the owner of Hometime Inspection, a property inspection business. He earned his associates degree from Kirkwood. Nick is passionate about bird hunting and helping others.

Nick’s favorite memory from his time in Miracle League is watching the athletes develop socially and physically year after year. An example of this is when he can watch kids who started with crutches run the bases years later. Nick enjoys the family vibes that the Miracle League provides him. Nick hopes to see the Miracle League continue to grow for the betterment of our athletes and their families.

When not focusing on the Miracle League in the fall, you can find Nick out pheasant hunting trying to harvest a rooster in each of Iowa’s 99 counties hunting public land exclusively with his bird dogs.

Ann Brendes, Vice President, Coach of the Brewers, Volunteer and Fundraising Committee.

Ann is the high school internship coordinator and professor at Kirkwood Community College. She is a member of the Cedar Rapids Kiwanis and is the student leadership advisor for Key Clubs at Kennedy, Prairie, and Xavier High School. She also participates in the Aktion Club at The ARC of East Central Iowa. Ann received her BA and MA from the University of Iowa.

Ann’s favorite memory was her first day with Miracle League. She became a coach THAT day. Everyone was so passionate, and she enjoyed experiencing the community’s commitment to providing opportunities for players. Joining the board was an extension of that joy since she so very fully believes in our mission.  Ann hopes to help build a sustainable framework, so we can look back decades later at a fully functioning entity. She hopes that we can expand opportunities to older players and perhaps other sports.

Ann loves plants and has over 80 houseplants!

Byron Tabor, Commissioner

Byron retired from AEGON as a senior programmer analyst in 2015. He received his BA in Computer Science from the University of Iowa. Byron is passionate about community service.

Byron’s favorite memory from his time in the Miracle League is when the Miracle League players destroyed Tom Grozelanny’s lifetime ERA. Tom played in the Majors for the Pirates, Cubs, Nationals, Brewers, Tigers, and Indians. Byron also enjoys the smiles that occur when he plays the walk-up music. Byron hopes to see more awareness in eastern Iowa of the Miracle League and the absolute fun that we have on game days.

Byron has been a part of Kiwanis since 1990 and brought the idea of the Miracle League to the metro area from the Des Moines Kiwanis club's example.

Roger Smith, Treasurer

Roger is a retired CPA who volunteers for the local not-for-profits through his membership with the Cedar Rapids Kiwanis Club. He received his BS in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa. Roger is passionate about people using their strengths to best help community organizations, and the Minnesota Vikings.

Roger’s favorite memory from the Miracle League is watching a new player get their first hit when batting. Roger enjoys observing volunteers and players interacting with each other and having rewarding experiences. He hopes to see the continued enhancement of the experiences for Miracle League players and their families in the future.

Roger enjoys curling.

Tony Burton, Sergeant at Arms

Tim Beastrom

Tim is the owner/operator of Quality Painting of Marion. He is passionate about the Miracle League and it’s continued growth.

He dares people to try to get a microphone out of his hands.

Nate Marsceau

Nate is a water meter field technician. He received his BS in General Psychology with a minor in Biblical Studies from Northwestern University. He is passionate about his family, sports, the outdoors, cooking, and woodworking.

Nate’s favorite memory from his time in Miracle League is when his son Teagon was holding the American flag before the game during the National Anthem. He thoroughly enjoys watching how much fun all the kids have while playing and participating. He enjoys learning more about the players outlook on life and how their joy is so infectious! Nate would love to see the Miracle LEague be a place of outreach beyond baseball. He believes that having multiple outlets for these kids and their families is truly a blessing, but he envisions the Miracle League also being a resource of information, support, and advocacy.

Nate absolutely loves the outdoors and has learned how to live off of the land. He is currently working on learning how to build his own log cabin.
